New Motivator

Crossing the Atlantic was tough on all of us but not as tough as it was on Roger(our engine). We had some issues with the raw water pump underway that was handled in fine form by Richard and once we made landfall, parts were acquired and all was mostly good again. Installed in 1990, he has never EVER let us down. Over the course of the last year of Caribbean Island hopping it seems Roger has been showing his age. On Astor, we choose not to ignore signs like this and as we looked at options it was clear that replacing was the best thing to do.

Over the summer of 2012 we managed to replace everything between the raw water thru hull to the exhaust thru hull and the entire driveline except the shaft. The motor, transmission, intercoolers, hoses, hose clamps, gauges, hydraulic windlass pump and hoses, hydraulic reservoir, and a new redesigned exhaust system with a water lift muffler.

We fit it all into the same box and had a bit of room to spare. Technology has improved in 23 years and now have a bit more horsepower in a slightly smaller package, and it is quieter. MUCH quieter! Even tho the swap event was quite the big event, we feel it should have been done long ago.

All of this could not have been done without the cooperation and assistance of the marina and staff here at Queensway Quay Marina. There is no other place in the world we could have pulled this off without even such a hint of a complaint. We also owe a great thanks to our Dock Neighbors for putting up with all the clutter on the decks and docks when we were looking our worst.
